Frequently Asked Questions About Working with Speech in the Valley
-
Therapy duration varies for every child and depends on several factors, including the type and severity of the communication impairment, the presence of other support services such as school-based therapy, the level of parental involvement, your child’s motivation, and consistency in attendance. Each child progresses at a different rate, and treatment plans are adjusted as needed to support ongoing growth and success.
-
No. In fact, research consistently shows that early exposure to AAC supports and increases the development of speech and language. AAC gives children a reliable way to communicate, which reduces frustration and actually encourages more verbal attempts over time. AAC does not replace speech; it enhances it.
-
An initial evaluation typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Ongoing therapy sessions are generally 30 minutes in length, depending on the child’s needs and attention span. After each session, the therapist provides a brief update to the parent along with activities or strategies to support carryover at home.

Yes. In many cases, we are able to provide speech therapy services at your child’s ABA center. This typically requires coordination with the ABA provider and confirmation that the center allows outside therapy services on site. Once we receive your referral, our team will communicate with the ABA center to discuss scheduling, collaboration, and any required approvals. Our goal is to support your child’s communication needs in a familiar environment while working collaboratively with their therapy team.
